This policy explains what personal data Language Ranch processes on languageranch.com, why, and what rights you have.

2. What we process and why
- Visiting the website. Your browser sends us technical data such as your IP address and browser type. We need it to deliver the site and keep it secure (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- Your account. You sign in with Google, which gives us your name, email address and profile picture. You can add more details in your profile (contract, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- Learning. We store your progress, answers, decks, courses and certificates so the platform works for you. Your teacher, if you have one, sees your work. A certificate has a public page that anyone with its link can open to check it is real (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- Payments. Stripe handles payments, and we never see your card details. We keep what you bought, when and for how much (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR and our duty to keep accounting records, Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR).
- Emails. We email you about your purchases (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- Trial lessons and messages. If you request a trial lesson or write to us, we use your details to contact you and answer (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR).
3. Cookies
We set the cookies and browser storage the site needs to work, such as your sign-in, settings and progress, without asking (§ 165(3) TKG 2021). Analytics (Google Analytics) and advertising (Meta Pixel) cookies are set only if you accept them (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). Google Analytics loads with the page but stores no cookies until you accept. You can change your choice at any time in the .
4. Who receives your data
The website runs on our own server in Austria. We use these services:
- Google: sign-in, emails, Google Analytics and embedded YouTube videos
- Meta: Meta Pixel, only with your consent
- Cloudflare: network, security and file delivery
- Stripe: payments
They may process data in the USA. All four are certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which the European Commission recognises as adequate protection (Art. 45 GDPR). We do not sell your data.
5. How long we keep it
Account and learning data: until you ask us to delete your account. Payment records: 7 years, as Austrian tax law requires (§ 132 BAO). Trial lesson requests: up to 3 years after our last contact. Analytics and advertising cookies: at most 2 years.
6. Your rights
You can ask us for access to your data, and to correct, delete, restrict or export it. You can object to processing based on legitimate interest and withdraw a consent at any time. Email us at [email protected], including to delete your account. You can also complain to the Austrian data protection authority (Datenschutzbehörde, dsb.gv.at).
You need an account to use the learning platform; the main page and the blog need none. We make no automated decisions that significantly affect you.
